Demo Reflections

I received my Character Demo today and wow has been exciting to hear the culmination on a year’s worth of classes, workshops and workouts. Truthfully it’s more than just my work I’m hearing though. I’m so so so grateful to have had the talents of Arianna and Mike who co-wrote and directed, and engineered the demo, respectively, by my side. In addition to being supportive partners they are just plain fun people.

The demo process is so unique in voiceover as it is really the only time that the material is made to fit me rather than the other way around. In auditions and training I’m constantly learning how to squeeze my talent and personality and voice into whatever idiom the material has established. Joyously so, that is after all the job and inhabiting such a variety of different characters and situations is indeed what I find so interesting about voice acting. But I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel like a bit of a treat to have material written specifically to showcase ME.

I’m excited for my next steps, sending this demo to agents, managers, and casting directors, and of course more classes and hopefully some auditions!
